Day 1 of term →
Convicted of
Anthony Sargent, a Proud Boys member from St. Augustine, Florida, breached the north entrance of the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6, 2021 riot, pushing with the crowd against officers guarding the building and throwing a heavy rock-like object toward the inner doors of the north entrance; later that day, he physically separated a law enforcement officer from a rioter, preventing the officer from making an arrest. At sentencing, he claimed he had been trying to "help endangered police officers," an explanation the judge called "laughable" and said she was "not buying." He pleaded guilty to all charges, including felony civil disorder and destruction of government property. He was sentenced on 12/15/2023 to 60 months of incarceration, well above the Justice Department's recommendation, along with 36 months of supervised release, $2,980 in restitution, and a $220 special assessment.
