Convicted of
Bobby Wayne Russell, of Falkville, Alabama, confronted officers at a line of bicycle barricades on the southwest side of the U.S. Capitol grounds during the Jan. 6, 2021 riot, resisting orders to move away; when the barricade broke apart, he pulled a Metropolitan Police Department officer's jacket, causing both of them to fall at least four steps to the ground. Later, at about 4:20 p.m., as officers tried to clear the area near the Senate wing doors, he refused to leave and pushed his back and buttocks into several officers' riot shields. He pleaded guilty to one charge, assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers, with other charges dismissed. He was sentenced on 11/17/2023 to 12 months and 1 day of incarceration, 24 months of supervised release with the first 6 months on home detention, 250 hours of community service, a $100 special assessment, and $2,000 in restitution.
