Convicted of
Erik Rau, of central Ohio, entered the U.S. Capitol with Derek Jancart during the Jan. 6, 2021 riot and spent about 40 minutes inside, making his way into House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's conference room; Jancart shared videos showing Rau yelling at police officers, "We have you surrounded," while cheering on the rioters. He was still on probation from a 2019 domestic violence conviction at the time and turned himself in after Jancart's arrest. He pleaded guilty to one charge, disorderly conduct in a Capitol building, with other charges dismissed, becoming one of the first Jan. 6 defendants to accept a plea deal. He was sentenced on 9/29/2021 to 45 days in jail, a $10 special assessment, and $500 in restitution.
