Convicted of
Gary Laird Wickersham, 81, of West Chester, Pennsylvania, a retired Army veteran believed to be the oldest person charged over the Capitol riot, took a bus to Trump's "Stop the Steal" rally and left before it ended to head to the U.S. Capitol, arriving among the first wave of rioters and entering the Senate Wing moments behind "QAnon Shaman" Jacob Chansley during the Jan. 6, 2021 riot, spending less than half an hour inside; he later told the FBI he believed he was authorized to enter because he paid his taxes, and that antifa, not Trump supporters, had breached the barricades. He pleaded guilty to one charge, parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building, with other charges, including violent entry and disorderly conduct, dismissed. He was sentenced on 12/21/2021 to 36 months of probation including 90 days of home confinement, a $10 special assessment, a $2,000 fine, and $500 in restitution.
