Convicted of
Henry Phillip "Hank" Muntzer, 55, of Dillon, Montana, traveled with friends to the Jan. 6, 2021 "Stop the Steal" rally and remained inside the U.S. Capitol for nearly 40 minutes during the riot that followed, among the very last rioters to leave; at the Upper West Terrace he positioned himself at the front of a crowd that collectively pushed back a line of officers, causing at least one to fall down a set of stairs, and recorded videos of himself boasting that he had come "tak[ing] the Capitol by storm." He pleaded not guilty to all charges; following a bench trial, he was found guilty on all counts on 2/7/2024, including felony obstruction of an official proceeding and civil disorder, though the obstruction count was later dismissed on 8/8/2024. He was sentenced on 10/10/2024 to 24 months of incarceration, 12 months of supervised release, and $2,000 in restitution.
