Convicted of
Jacob Kyle Wiedrich, 24, of Utah, flew to Washington, D.C. on January 5, 2021 using stimulus money to attend Trump's rally, then joined the mob outside the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6, 2021 riot, yelling at officers through broken windows, chanting "we ride for Trump, we die for Trump," and pushing past a police line before entering the building and walking through it for about 20 minutes, during which he stole a large American flag decorated with gold tassels. He pleaded guilty to one charge, parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building, with other charges dismissed. U.S. District Judge Thomas Hogan, remarking he hoped the sentence would deter Wiedrich from "falling victim to false gods" ahead of the 2024 election, sentenced him on 1/19/2022 to three years of probation, 90 hours of location monitoring, a $10 special assessment, $500 in restitution, and 100 hours of community service; his probation was terminated early on 11/13/2023.
