James Robert Elliott, a member of the Northern Illinois Proud Boys from Aurora, traveled to Washington for Jan. 6, 2021 wearing a ballistic vest, helmet, and hard-knuckle gloves, and carried a radio and a flag on a wooden pole; facing a mob of rioters, he shouted a "300"-inspired battle cry and thrust the flagpole in the air before striking officers with it, later bragging online that he "bonked 2 cops." He was originally charged with six federal counts, including civil disorder and assault with a dangerous weapon, and pleaded guilty to one count of assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers. He was sentenced on June 22, 2023 to 37 months in prison, 24 months of supervised release, and $2,000 in restitution.
