Convicted of
Jeffery Shane Witcher, of Bastrop, Texas, flew with co-defendant Richard Franklin Barnard from Texas to Washington, D.C. on January 5, 2021, then entered the U.S. Capitol with a large crowd at about 2:02 p.m. during the Jan. 6, 2021 riot, traveling to the Crypt and other locations while recording video in which he was heard chanting with rioters and declaring, "I am in the White House! We crashed this. Our house!" before later clarifying he had momentarily forgotten he was in the Capitol, not the White House; he was identified through photos and videos posted on social media. He pleaded guilty to one charge, entering a restricted building or grounds, with other charges, including obstruction of an official proceeding and disorderly conduct, dismissed. He was sentenced on 2/4/2022 to 12 months of probation, a $25 special assessment, $500 in restitution, and 60 hours of community service.
