Convicted of
Jeremy Daniel Groseclose, 41, of Elliston, Virginia, wearing a gas mask, climbed through a broken window next to the Senate Wing Door at about 2:24 p.m. during the Jan. 6, 2021 riot, just minutes after lawmakers were evacuated, and later helped prevent Capitol Police from closing a security door at the Crypt by wedging chairs and trash cans beneath it and physically lifting the door as it closed. He pleaded not guilty; following a bench trial before Judge Christopher R. Cooper, he was found guilty on 11/22/2023 of felony civil disorder and obstruction of an official proceeding, plus misdemeanors, though he was acquitted of two charges and the obstruction count was later dismissed. He was sentenced on 10/2/2024 to 40 months in prison, 24 months of supervised release, and a $5,000 fine.
