Jonathan Gennaro Mellis

Jonathan Gennaro Mellis, 35, of Williamsburg, Virginia, bragged "The world heard US!" about the Jan. 6, 2021 riot and was caught on body-worn camera footage near the Lower West Terrace tunnel urging a fellow rioter, Justin Jersey, to "knock their masks off," then took a large wooden stick from Jersey and used it to attack police officers himself after Jersey charged the line and knocked an officer to the ground. He pleaded guilty on 6/12/2023 to a felony count of assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers using a dangerous weapon. U.S. District Judge Randolph D. Moss sentenced him on 12/20/2023 to 51 months of incarceration, 3 years of supervised release, a $100 special assessment, a $20,000 fine, and $2,000 in restitution.
