Convicted of
Karol Chwiesiuk, a Chicago police officer, entered the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6, 2021 riot alongside his sister, Agnieszka, spending about eight minutes inside. He turned down a plea deal and was convicted by a D.C. jury in August 2023 of four misdemeanors. He was sentenced on Jan. 24, 2024 to 90 days of home detention, three years of probation, and 200 hours of community service; the judge said she did not feel right imposing prison time given his lack of criminal history and the brief, nonviolent nature of his conduct. He was later fired from the Chicago Police Department over the conviction.
