Convicted of
Luke Wessley Bender, of Fairfax County, Virginia, was identified after a high school classmate tipped off the FBI with a screenshot of his Instagram account. Video from atop Capitol scaffolding captured a voice believed to be Bender's saying "We're storming the Capitol," and he entered the floor of the U.S. Senate chamber on Jan. 6, 2021, where he was photographed standing on the dais near Jacob Chansley, the self-described "QAnon Shaman." Bender was found guilty on all six counts, including obstruction of an official proceeding, at a stipulated bench trial on Dec. 7, 2022, and was sentenced to 21 months in prison and 36 months of supervised release. After the D.C. Circuit vacated obstruction convictions tied to the Jan. 6 cases in 2024, he was resentenced on Dec. 19, 2024 to time served, 12 months of supervised release, and $2,000 in restitution.
