Mathew Capsel

Matthew Capsel, 28, of Ottawa, Illinois, was among rioters illegally occupying the Capitol's Lower West Terrace between 2 and 3 p.m. on Jan. 6, 2021, recording videos of himself declaring "Hold the line, don't run" and joining a mob that overtook officers securing the inauguration bleacher steps; later that evening, after curfew, he joined another mob that charged and pushed a line of National Guard members. He was arrested on Jan. 26, 2021 and pleaded guilty to interfering with a law enforcement officer during a civil disorder. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison, 24 months of supervised release, and $2,000 in restitution.
