Michael Joseph Foy, 32, a Marine Corps veteran from Wixom, Michigan, carried a "Trump 2020" flag attached to a hockey stick to the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot and used it to swing at and strike officers at least 11 times within 16 seconds, including one officer already injured on the ground. He pleaded not guilty and was found guilty, following a stipulated bench trial on 6/23/2023, of obstruction of an official proceeding and assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers. U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan sentenced him on 2/28/2024 to 40 months in prison, 24 months of supervised release, and $2,000 in restitution.
