Convicted of
Robert Scott Palmer, 54, of Largo City, Florida, threw a wooden plank at Capitol Police and Metropolitan Police officers guarding the Lower West Terrace entrance during the Jan. 6, 2021 riot, then about two minutes later sprayed the contents of a fire extinguisher at the officers until it was empty and threw the empty canister at them. He pleaded guilty in October 2021 to one charge, assaulting officers using a dangerous weapon and inflicting bodily injury, with other charges dismissed; it was the first sentencing on that specific charge among Jan. 6 cases. He was sentenced on 12/17/2021 to 63 months of incarceration, three years of supervised release, a $100 special assessment, and $2,000 in restitution, the longest sentence handed down in a Jan. 6 case up to that point.
