Shane Jason Woods, of Illinois, wearing all black clothing with a "TRUMP" baseball cap and surgical mask reading "TRUMP 2021," tripped a U.S. Capitol Police officer and shoved her to the ground as she chased another rioter who had used mace during the Jan. 6, 2021 riot, then was captured on video tackling a television news cameraman who was trying to leave a staging area that had been overrun by the mob, becoming the first person charged with attacking journalists during the riot. He pleaded guilty to two charges, striking, beating, and wounding within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States and assaulting certain officers, with other charges, including civil disorder and engaging in physical violence, dismissed. He was sentenced on 10/4/2023 to 54 months of incarceration, 36 months of supervised release, a $125 special assessment, and $2,000 in restitution.
