Steven Cappuccio, 53, of Universal City, Texas, was part of the mob that pinned Metropolitan Police Officer Daniel Hodges against a door in the Lower West Terrace tunnel on Jan. 6, 2021; Cappuccio ripped the officer's gas mask off his face, dislodged his helmet, and struck him in the face with his own baton after wresting it away. He pleaded not guilty and was convicted of six felonies at a bench trial on July 20, 2023. Prosecutors sought more than 10 years in prison, citing what they called the "sadistic cruelty" of the attack, but he was sentenced on Nov. 3, 2023 to 85 months in prison and 24 months of supervised release.
