Todd Chrisley was a real estate developer and reality television personality known for the USA Network show Chrisley Knows Best. He was convicted in June 2022 on all counts of a federal superseding indictment including conspiracy to commit bank fraud, bank fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy to commit tax evasion, and tax evasion. Chrisley was the primary architect of a scheme to defraud community banks out of more than $30 million through fraudulent loan applications — submitting fabricated bank statements and false financial records to obtain loans, then spending the proceeds on cars, clothing, real estate, and travel, and using new loans to repay old ones. In the tax evasion component, he funneled his income through accounts held in his wife Julie's name and transferred funds to family members to conceal earnings from the IRS. Their accountant, Peter Tarantino, was also convicted for his role in filing false tax returns on the couple's behalf.
